The national Capital recorded the warmest day of the season with mercury settling at 32.2 degrees Celsius on Thursday. Indicating the onset of an early summer, the temperature is unlikely to drop below 30 degrees Celsius in the coming days.

A maximum temperature of 32.2 degrees was recorded on Thursday, which was seven degrees above season’s average. On Tuesday too, mercury touched 30 degrees Celsius, making it the second warmest February in the past one decade.

“If this month is any indicator of the impending summers, I am sure temperature will sore as high as 50 degrees Celsius. We switched on fans two days ago. It feels like March-end,” said Sonakshi Singla, a resident of Lajpat Nagar.

As the mercury is soaring, the number of patients in the hospitals has also increased. Patients are coming in with the symptoms of viral fever, cold and cough. “Cases of influenza have gone up in the last couple of days. We strongly advise patients to not take the change of weather lightly and keep themselves covered. It is very important to cover nose and mouth with disposable tissue or handkerchief while coughing and sneezing. Do not shake hands with people suffering from any kind of flu or if you have to, use a hand sanitizer,” said Dr S P Byotra, Head of Department of Internal Medicine, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.
