Residents of North-West Moti Bagh will soon be able to enjoy a green view while reading books at NDMC (New Delhi Municipal Council) public library. The newly-renovated library will have ten-thousand new books along with newly designed surroundings.

The library, inaugurated by Member of Parliament Meenakshi Lekhi, will also become a digital one which, once operational, will allow students of competitive exams to get access to e-books.

Divided in different sections for sitting and reading, the place will have collections for children and senior citizens. “NDMC has ensure that we provide wholesome experience to the readers. We have kept sitting areas close to windows which will allow open sunlight. Moreover, the windows are designed in a way that they offer a green look and not buildings,” said NDMC spokesperson, MS Sherawat. The NDMC is also working on eight public digital libraries to make sure the students of competitive exams get a complete reach to books which are expensive.

The renovation process was completed under the joint initiative of New Delhi Municipal Council and Angelique Foundation.

Speaking on the inauguration ceremony Lekhi said, “It is necessary to encourage reading habit amongst children and generation in the age of digital gadgets, which helps us to build opinion and have a point of view things in everyday life.”

The move gives a fresh air to the dying culture of reading which saw a merger of five libraries due to lack of membership.  Last year in July, the Union cultural minister Mahesh Sharma had informed the Loksabha that “five sub-branch and resettlement colony libraries of Delhi Public Library have been closed in 2015 due to lack of membership and the same merged with the nearest sub-branch or zonal Library.”
