Reminiscent of the infamous Lokhandwala shootout in Mumbai, a heavy exchange of fire took place between criminals and a police team, comprising both Punjab and Delhi personnel, in Dwarka on Tuesday. After more than two hours of struggle, the police managed to arrest alive all five men, who are wanted for various crimes, including murder, extortion, and car-jacking.

According to the police, a Punjab Police team from the Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar district received the information that members of the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi, Sampat Nehra and Ravinder alias Kali gang were hiding in a residential building in Dwarka.

"The Punjab Police then contacted the Delhi Police and a joint raid was conducted at the property, identified as plot number 5, second floor, Shanti Park, Near Pillar No 768 at Dwarka Mor. As the police team approached, the criminal gang hiding inside opened indiscriminate fire. The police also retaliated. No one was injured in the incident and all five criminals were arrested," a senior police officer said.

He added that a huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from their possession.

The seized cache included 100 cartridges of .32 bore, 12 cartridges of .315 bore, two rifles, and five pistols. The five men were identified as Deepak, Sumit, Tiku, Sumit, and Krishan, residents of Haryana.

Meanwhile, as PCR vans cleared the area, barricades were put up, and armed policemen with ambulances were positioned in the area, the preparation triggered panic among the residents. While some said it reminded them of the Lokhandwala shootout, other mistook it for a terrorist attack.

"When I heard about it, I called my friends and family. We were told that bullets were flying haywire in the locality as a gang of criminals had barged into a building. Later, we came to know that no one was injured and all of them had been arrested. Locals also said that the criminals were carrying a large amount of weapons," said Kabir Krishnan, a marketing executive and a Dwarka resident.

Another resident, Manisha Katiyal, an interior designer who works in Gurugram, said she was driving by the location when she saw the heavy police deployment and thought that terrorists had attacked.

"There were murmurs that some terrorists had taken shelter in a building. It was horrifying. I rushed back home and checked news channels for details," she said.
