With the fear of being caught, kidnappers killed a seven-year-old boy by pushing him into the Yamuna river in the national Capital on February 20. The Delhi Police arrested the abductors on Sunday. The arrested abductors identified as Vikas, the main conspirator and his accomplice, Laxman, lived in the same locality as the victim.

The incident took place on February 20 evening when the boy was playing near his house in Karawal Nagar. The kidnappers, lured the boy with chocolate and ice-cream and since Vikas lived near the boy's house, the boy did not think twice as he knew Vikas. During interrogation, it was revealed that the duo were under debt and demanded Rs 2 lakh as ransom. "Vikas owed Rs 40,000 as well as Rs 12,000 to someone else. To repay his debt, Vikas along with Laxman kidnapped the seven-year-old boy," AK Singla Deputy Commissioner of Police said.

The kidnappers took the boy to a nearby stall from where they boarded an auto rickshaw to Mori Gate area. The accused were trying to find a place to hide the kid when, one of the accused happened to ask the boy about his father's mobile number. The kid who recalled the number correctly, sacred the abductors. They thought that the kid who recognises Vikas would tell his family. The duo then took the boy to the Kashmere Gate bridge. On finding the barbed wire broken, the accused fooled the child that they will show him beautiful fish in the river. Once the kid bent down, the two accused pushed him down the water body and fled from the spot.

On February 23, the kidnappers made a ransom call to the boy's father and demanded Rs 2 Lakh for the child's safe return. "Our team was alert and we had laid a trap. We did not know that they had already murdered the kid. We arrested them using technical surveillance," the officer said.
