In what looks like a scene from a Bollywood movie, a man and his wife have been arrested from southeast Delhi's Govindpuri area for their alleged involvement in mobile snatching and automobile theft. The duo gave literal meaning to the phrase 'partners in crime'.
The accused were identified as Vikram alias Vicky (24) and Sonia (20) who got into a wedlock about seven months ago and since then have been partners for life and for crime.
In recent times the cases of mobile snatching have risen considerably and seeing the problem picket checking was increased. A staff on one of such picket caught the duo red-handed while they are trying to escape after snatching the mobile in Govindpuri area.
"Vicky had been a school drop out and was addicted to drug and liquor since his childhood. To meet his addiction he opted for crime. However, his criminal activities considerably increased after getting married to his childhood love and neighbour Sonia, who started to help him in the commission of crime," said Chinmoy Biswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South-East.
Generally, Vicky would ride the bike and Sonia who would sit on the pavilion side snatched the mobile phones from the passers-by. However, on Tuesday the duo was caught red-handed after they were trying to escape.
The complainant Shubham was going towards his residence when the duo snatched his mobile phone and tried to run away. However, they were intercepted by the police team on picket checking.
Mobile phone snatched from the complainant and the motorcycle used in the crime, which also found to be stolen has been recovered from the duo.
