The petition, filed by NGO Citizens for Collective Consciousness, claimed that huge accumulation of construction material like "'rori', sand, stones etc on more than 35 acres of land is causing health hazard to children and even adults.
The National Green Tribunal has issued notice to Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) on a plea seeking action against illegal dumping of construction material on agricultural land in South Delhi.
A bench headed by Justice U D Salvi directed DPCC and other concerned authorities to file their reply by July 6 on a plea of an NGO alleging air pollution due to illegal dumping of building material in village Fatehpur Beri.
The petition, filed by NGO Citizens for Collective Consciousness, claimed that huge accumulation of construction material like "'rori', sand, stones etc on more than 35 acres of land is causing health hazard to children and even adults. "Due to heavy movements of trucks, dumpers, JCBs and other equipments and stone crushers, air of entire village and adjoining villages is being polluted so much that everyday a thick layer of dust enters the residential premises and people are finding it difficult to breathe," said the plea filed through advocate Praneet Ranjan.
It said that there are primary schools in village Fatehpur Beri and the children studying there are being adversely affected due to movement of heavy vehicles which cause air pollution. The plea has sought a stay on all such illegal activities in the agricultural land in village Fatehpur Beri. "Seize/impound all equipments, transport vehicles, earth moving vehicles and all other tools which are being used or can be used in all such illegal activities," the plea said.
Earlier, the Tribunal, in a separate case, had directed South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) to confiscate vehicles which were illegally dumping building material or any other waste material on road.
