A section of Delhi University teachers on Saturday filed a police complaint against an assistant professor for allegedly posting a derogatory comment about Goddess Durga on social networking site Facebook.

According to the complaint registered at Lodhi Road police station, Kedar Kumar Mandal, an assistant professor at Dayal Singh College, is alleged to have posted a highly objectionable comment about the Goddess.

Demanding strict action against the faculty member for making such a comment, members of BJP-backed National Democratic Teachers'Front said, "An FIR should be registered against the person for using such language for the Goddess and that too during the time of auspicious festival of Durga Puja."

Despite several attempts Mandal did not reply for comment as the objectional post from his Facebook account was deleted later in the day.

Meanwhile, members of ABVP have also demanded the suspension of Mandal. "We demand suspension of the person who has no respect for the religious sentiments of Hindus and dignity of women," they said in a statement.
