The official websites of Delhi University (DU), Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi (IIT-D), and Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) were allegedly hacked for a few hours on Tuesday. The hackers splashed the websites with posters and videos of the Indian Army's "brutalities" in Kashmir, and pro-Pakistan slogans.

Hacker group Pakistan Haxors CREW (PHC) later took the responsibility for the incident through a Facebook post. They also claimed that they have hacked websites of other educational institutions, including Banaras Hindu University (BHU).

While hacked, all the websites displayed the same message: "Greetings Government of India and the people of India. Do you know what your so-called heroes (soldiers) are doing in Kashmir? Do you know they are killing many innocent people in Kashmir?"

"Do you know they have raped many girls? Do you know they still are raping girls in Kashmir? How would you feel if your brother, sister, father, and mother get killed? How would you feel if someone rapes your mother or sister? Won't your life and your families be destroyed? (sic)," the message added.

Slogans -- "Security is just illusion" and "Pakistan Zindabad" -- were put up at the bottom of the pages, while popular Pakistani rock band Zeest's song played in the background.

The websites were restored later in the day. In a statement, DU Registrar said: "This is to convey that the website of the University of Delhi was inaccessible from outside the campus for some time due to some problems in the Domain Name Servers pointing incorrectly to another site. The problem was detected and immediately rectified by contacting ERNEST, which has provided the Domain Name for University of Delhi."

The IIT-D officials, however, refused to comment on the matter.

The website of DU's Aryabhatt College was hacked twice last year, and smeared with anti-Indian and Israeli Army slogans.

According to experts, in such incidents, instead of hacking the server hosting the authentic website, hackers hack the DNS server and re-direct the traffic to an account with malicious content.
