A 40-year-old man was allegedly thrashed by policemen in Ecotech III area of Greater Noida late on Friday night. The three policemen, who were alleged to be drunk at the time of the incident, have been suspended and an FIR has been registered against them.

According to police officers, the incident took place at around 9.30 pm, when three policemen, identified as assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Mahender Singh, head constable Surinder Lal and constable, Dhananjay Yadav, intercepted Sandeep Gupta's car opposite the Kulesara police post.

"ASI Singh had received information that a car carrying commercial LPG cylinders was on its way to the Kulesara area. The trio thought that it was a case of black marketing and put up a barricade opposite the police post," said KK Rana, Station House Officer, Ecotech-3 police station.

Police said that when the car was intercepted and stopped, five LPG cylinders were found. On questioning Gupta, the policemen found out that he had no documents.

"The policemen asked for the documents of the car, but Gupta could not produce them. They started arguing with him and he was then beaten up," Rana added.

Gupta somehow managed to call the police control room and report the matter, after which the information was relayed to the Ecotech-3 police station.

"After receiving the information, I, along with other police personnel, rushed to the spot and found the victim in a state of shock. He narrated the incident to me after which the three cops were taken to a government hospital in Bisrakh," said Rana.

Medical reports confirmed the trio was under the influence of alcohol, police said. Police then registered an FIR against the three.
