Driver dies as speeding car hits divider Govindpuri

The deceased was identified as Abhishek Dubey, 27, a resident of Malviya Nagar in south Delhi. The incident took place around 11.30pm. Eyewitnesses to the accident informed the police.

A person died when the car he was driving rammed into a divider after hitting a cyclist in southeast Delhi's Govindpuri area late on Saturday night. Police said five people were injured in the accident, including the cyclist who has been reported to be critical, and other occupants of the car.

The deceased was identified as Abhishek Dubey, 27, a resident of Malviya Nagar in south Delhi. The incident took place around 11.30pm. Eyewitnesses to the accident informed the police.

"The police team recovered a mangled Hyundai car and a cycle from the spot opposite the Majidia Hospital on RD Marg. The cyclist was identified as Subhash Gupta, who is critically injured and unfit to record statement as of now," a senior police officer said.

Witnesses told the police that Dubey was speeding. "They said the driver lost control and hit the cycle before ramming into the divider. There were five people in the car, of whom Dubey sustained fatal injuries and succumbed on the spot. Victims were rushed to hospital and a case of rash driving was registered under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 304 (A) at the Govindpuri police station," the police said.
