DRI arrests 2, seizes fake notes of Rs 2,000

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested two men who used to procure fake Indian currency notes from Bangladesh and circulate it in the Capital and the neighbouring states. While one of the accused was arrested from Old Delhi Railway Station, another was held in Patna, Bihar.

According to a senior DRI officer, following intelligence inputs, one person was traced and later nabbed at the Old Delhi Railway Station minutes before he was about to board a train to Malda in West Bengal. When his luggage was checked, 211 fake currency notes of Rs 2000 denomination, amounting to face value of Rs 4.22 lakh, were recovered from him. On questioning, the man revealed that he was instructed by a man from Patna to carry the currency. Based on his revelations, surveillance was mounted and his handler was also arrested from Patna Railway Station.

During questioning, the two men disclosed that they were in touch with the people in Bangladesh who hand over the fake currency notes to them and then ask them to circulate it in Delhi-NCR and Haryana."Efforts to identify others involved in this racket are being made. It is also being ascertained if the syndicate has more people working for it from India," the officer added.

Both the men have been sent to judicial custody.
