Family members of Dr Shashwat Pande, who was allegedly murdered in June 2017, have filed a plea in the Supreme Court demanding a CBI enquiry into the murder case of their son. Pande's mother said that the Delhi Police had failed to take the case to its logical conclusion.

Speaking to DNA, Dr Shalini Pande, Shashwat's mother said that her son was brutally killed by his colleague Dr Suyash Gupta on August 24, 2017.

"All this time the Delhi Police are just making fake promises. Even after so many months, no action has been taken against the accused. Every time, I go to the commissioner, he tells me that he has put the Special Investigating Team (SIT) and the Crime Branch on the case. I have also pleaded for the Narco test of the parents of the accused but the police are denying this even after the high court's order," Pande said.

Shalini was accompanied by two of her relatives and was speaking to the media about the inaction by the police at the Press Club of India. The family member had on Wednesday filed a plea in the Supreme Court demanding a CBI probe after the Delhi Police failed to arrest Gupta.

Pande, a student of radiology at St Stephen's Hospital was found murdered with his throat slit. The accused, who also worked along with him, would often harass him.

Gupta is missing from the day of the incident and has not been arrested. Pande's family members said that they feel Gupta's parents are sheltering him. " My nephew was a bright student and that is why Gupta was jealous of him. He told me he was harassed over social media by him as well," said the victim's aunt.

Gupta was even suspended four times before he murdered Shashwat. Shashwat's family met the commissioner of police on Thursday. He assured the family of action and asked them to have patience. He also increased the reward value from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh on the arrest of the accused. The case has also been handed over to DCP (Crime Branch) Joy Tirkey's team. Sources also said that the suspect was mentally unstable and was barred from entering premises of the hospital.
