With an aim to limit the number of doctors and medical staff visiting the Delhi Secretariat for petty issues, the Department of Health and Family Welfare has asked them to now take the virtual road for their grievances.

The department recently ordered the staff and doctors to send their complaints to their heads of the departments, who would later forward them to officials on their respective email ids.

The Delhi Secretariat houses the administrative heads and officers of all major departments. According to sources, regular visits from doctors and medical staff was hampering the overall functioning of the hospitals.

"It was being noted that regular visits by the medical staff was affecting the functioning of the hospitals. The medical staff is supposed to offer treatment to patients and not visit offices for administrative work," a senior Delhi government official said. As per directives, if no response is received within 15 working days, a reminder should be sent by the head of the medical institution to the department of health. Once the reminder is sent, the staff can visit the department along with copies of mails.

"This will also ease out the entire process. The visits were not only hampering the working of hospitals but also at the Delhi Secretariat, where the officials are dealing with serious issues. There are a large number of other issues that need attention," the official added.

In case of emergencies, the staff can visit only after getting a permission from the heads. "Except the above, any visit to the head office of the department would be liable to be treated as a violation of departmental directions and may attract disciplinary action, as per rules against the staff concerned," the order from the department stated. The order, dated December 18, has been sent to all heads of the medical institutions, requesting them to communicate it to their employees.
