The debacle for Congress in the municipal corporation has left the party on a serious decline. The party that was at the helm for 15 years in the national capital is now gasping for breath. The result made the Delhi in-charge PC Chacko and state chief Ajay Maken resign from their respective posts taking responsibility for the failure.

For last two long years after Maken was made the party in charge, he carried out an aggressive campaign against the rival party AAP that captured their vote bank.

He headed the campaign impressively but just ahead of the polls, things went haywire after party loyalists started attacking him of being 'autocrat' and 'inaccessible'.

These loyalists did more harm to the party than to Maken. At a time, when the party was to show a collective approach, it split into many camps.

All leaders who were dormant for last two years and were invisible at party office started demanding their share in the process of selection of candidates. This led to the debacle of the party. Maken and Chacko took responsibility even before the splinters group thought of attacking them. But the question will whether the party high command will accept their resignations. It is unlikely that party top leaders will accept Maken's resignation as there is no face to represent the party of Maken's stature. But before taking command of the party, he needs to get a free hand to muzzle the defectors and dissenters. And if his resignation is accepted, the new face has to take party ahead from the scratch.
