In line with its initiative to utilise its premises for the promotion of art and culture, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is decorating the Moti Bagh station of the upcoming Majlis Park – Shiv Vihar Metro corridor.
Abstract artworks are being installed on the facades of the Metro station facing the Ring Road and an adjacent flyover, conveying the message of environment conservation. A specialised team of artists has been roped in for the work.
The piers of the Metro station on the Ring Road are also being decorated with traditional Indian jali work. The installations will be backlit and will also have night glow vinyl for a better aesthetic look and visibility during the night.
According to a senior official of the DMRC, "Using jali work is an effort from the rail corporation towards promoting ethnic Indian architecture. The artworks are currently being installed at the station and the work is expected to be completed within a week's time."
In addition to this, students of a nearby school for girls will also decorate seven piers of the Metro corridor near the station. The themes which will be covered in these artworks will be reverence for life, reverence for the spirit of education, love for nature, character building, spiritual unfolding, love for Indian ideals and living for others.
Stations of the recently inaugurated Botanical Garden–Kalkaji Mandir section have also been decorated with artwork which depicted India's rich culture and heritage as well as the landmarks of the nearby areas. Similar efforts will be made in all the corridors which are coming up as part of the third phase of expansion of the Delhi Metro.
