Just a year ago, Mohammad Hilaluddin was among the scores of unemployed youths in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Today, he is an airport supervisor in Barcelona, Spain. This transformation in Hilaluddin's life has come courtesy the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme of the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL).
The father of the 23-year-old is a labourer and he has five more siblings. There was barely enough to survive and Hilaluddin was at his wits' end when a neighbour told him about the DIAL training school. After finishing the mechanised cleaning course at the vocational training school in Palam, he started off as a mechanical cleaning staff at a small firm in Delhi.
"After completion of the 50-day course in 2015, a company selected him. Then in 2016, he was sent to the Bangalore airport, from when he was hired by another company within the next six months. It was from there that his skills and efficiency convinced a foreign-based firm to hand pick him and recruit him as a contractual worker for the Barcelona airport," an official working at the training centre said.
His first job earned him Rs 7,000 a month. At present, Hilaluddin is earning somewhere between Rs 60,000 and 70,000 a month.

The centre also provides for boarding facility for outstation candidates and meals for everyone. "At present we have 200 candidates, with 20-25 per cent of them being women. Last year, 86 per cent of our candidates got employed," the official added.
