Former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit slammed her successor Arvind Kejriwal for staging a sit-in at Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal's office for the past five days over "illegal protests" carried out by IAS officers in the capital.

While addressing a press conference on Friday, the former CM advised the latter to read the Constitution and then approach the Prime Minister and Parliament. Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and Health Minister Satyendar Jain are also on an indefinite hunger strike.

She raised questions on why AAP leaders were protesting in the L-G's office since Monday, despite the roles of L-G and CM being well defined in the Constitution. "What is his (Kejriwal's) intention behind it? I feel ashamed to see a chief minister releasing photos on the internet sitting on a protest at the L-G's office," said Dixit.

She compared her governance between 1998-2004, with BJP at the Centre, to that of the Aam Aadmi Party's — a comparison that has often been made by senior Congress leaders, including Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) Chief Ajay Maken. She boasted that there was no conflict between them during that period. "Kejriwal must understand that Delhi is an Union Territory and he is wrong if he thinks he can have a governance model like that of Haryana or Uttar Pradesh," said the former CM. She added, "The Congress also demanded full statehood for Delhi, but it never politicised the issue. People understand the politics behind dharnas; they are not fools."

The DPCC President said, "The dharna by both the parties is part of a well-planned strategy. The script of this strategy had been written when the chief secretary was assaulted at the CM's residence. AAP is staging a dharna to divert attention from its failure on public issues. AAP and BJP are doing dharna politics, as they are not serious about issues plaguing the public, such as water shortage."
