The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has arrested four followers of Gurmeet Ram Rahim, who had set railway coaches afire at Anand Vihar yard in New Delhi, following the godman's conviction in August this year.

The arrest was made on Tuesday in a joint raid with the Delhi Police's Special Cell, after more than three months of intense probe, scanning of over 100 CCTV footages and questioning of more than 200 suspects.

The four men have been identified as Vijay Malik, Bir Singh, Kanhaiya Lal Mittal and Harjeet Singh, all residents of Delhi. All of them have admitted that they are followers of Gurmeet Ram Rahim's Dera Sachcha Sauda and that they had set ablaze two coaches of a train at the Anand Vihar yard to avenge the Panchkula court's verdict against Ram Rahim.

It was on August 25, 2017, that two empty coaches of a train were set ablaze by the miscreants at the Anand Vihar Railway Station. According to Divisional Security Commissioner of the RPF, Shashi Kumar, who led the operations over the past four months:"Some bottles with inflammable liquid were also found at the spot which indicated it to be the intentional handiwork of some miscreants. In this regard, a case under IPC 436 for mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house, etc and for causing damage to public property under Railway Act was registered. The arrests were made following a tip-off on Tuesday."

"The accused Vijay Malik is a businessman, who owns a banquet hall on Wazirpur Road in Delhi. Interrogations revealed that the violence and the act to set the railway coaches on fire was done at his banquet hall. Harjeet Singh is a chartered accountant by profession while Bir Singh helped another recce the station and the yard before committing the offence ahead of the verdict. They had planned that if the court convicts Ram Rahim, they would instigate violence," the officer said.

He informed that it took over four months to zero down on the accused. "Raids are underway to nab the remaining accused. A team led by Inspector Ajeet Singh, Anil Kumar, Constable Chandrashekhar and Constable Pankaj Goswami along with the Delhi Police's team scanned over 100 CCTV cameras and questioned 200 suspects before arresting the main accused. Investigations are still in progress," Shashi added.
