The political drama in Delhi turned ugly on Wednesday with leaders from both, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) protesting against each other’s ideology on the streets. While Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal along with deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, Satyendra Jain and Gopal Rai continued their sit-in at Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal’s house for the third day, BJP leaders Vijendra Gupta, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Parvesh Sahib Singh, Jagdish Pradhan and AAP rebel Kapil Mishra staged a dharna at the CM’s office on Wednesday.
“I am fighting for the people of Delhi against those who have stopped the public services. You can say this ‘dharna’ is my surgical strike against those who want to punish the voters of Delhi,” Kejriwal had said. The AAP government alleged that Delhi’s IAS officers have not been attending meetings with ministers or picking up their calls. The government claims the strike has affected setting up of mohalla clinics, building of drains and release of funds to private schools. “Until the CM assures to provide water to the people, we will continue our sit-in,” Gupta said.
Former finance minister Yashwant Sinha said that if former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was there, he would have directed the home minister to find a solution to the crisis, but the present dispensation is sleeping.”
This is the first time a counter dharna was carried out by a political party. The party leaders of both AAP and BJP refused to leave the respective offices. However, no statement was issued by the L-G house even on Wednesday.
