Delhi: Young chef killed in accident during Ganesha festivities

The family was looking forward to two weddings, including of the deceased planned next year

A chef specialising in Japanese and Chinese cuisine looking for a lucrative job, Rahul Kushwah's sudden death has left the Kushwah family in state of shock. The family was gearing up for the upcoming wedding in November. Rahul's cousin was getting married in November and Rahul was all happy to tie knot next year in February.

Kushwah, was found with his arm cut off and face was badly damaged, leaving him dead on National Highway-24 highway near in east Delhi's Samaspur on Saturday night. Police said that according to the eyewitness a speeding car allegedly dragged him for more than two kilometres while he was heading for Ganesha idol immersion.

Kushwah had got onto the car's bonnet, when the cab driver had hit one of the men headed for the immersion. Police suspects that fearing mob agitation, the driver sped away with the man on his bonnet and ran over him a few meters away.

According to the family members, they got to know about the incident from a neighbour who was present at the time of the incident.

"The mother was preparing food for Rahul as he had returned from office and she was waiting for him to come back from the immersion. But as she got the news of the incident she fainted. The other family members rushed to the Lal Bahadur Shahstri hospital where he was declared brought dead. The mother is yet to come to terms," said Bharti, deceased's sister.

The family was in a celebratory mood as two weddings were to take place within four months and was very excited for the marriage of his cousin. Despite the dates of wedding not finalised, he had started to plan various things for the wedding.

Kushwah was a brilliant chef by profession and he was called at various events where he used to cook his specialised Chinese cuisine.

"Currently he was filling in place of his brother Amit Kushwah, who is in Vaishno Devi, at Food Panda. After his 12th, he did not attend college. He did odd jobs and was into cooking. After working at a catering company and had made good contacts. They used to call him during the wedding season and dreamt of owning his own business one day," said Pinki, deceased's sister.

The family requested police to take strict action and arrest the accused soon.

THE INCIDENT

  • Rahul Kushwah had gone with his neighbours for Ganesh visarjan. 
     
  • When a cab passing by hit one of guy present in the procession. As the group was arguing with the cab driver, who was accompanied by four other, Rahul was standing near the car’s bonnet.  
     
  • Police said the cab driver fled the spot out of fear, while Rahul was still on the bonnet and was dragged for two kilometers where he was found injured on the floor.
