In a recent case against a quack doctor, the anti-quackery cell of the Delhi Medical Association received a complaint in which a doctor, who has been running a medical clinic on a two-wheeler in Nabi Kareem area of Delhi, gave wrong medicines to a pregnant woman leading to miscarriage. Taking action on this, DMA has now forwarded the complaint to the government department and is planning to catch hold of the doctor.

"We received this letter last week and soon after we sent the complainant to the Delhi Medical Council, forwarded the complaint to the Delhi Health Department and will be sending it to the Delhi Police as well. The irony here is that this fake doctor runs his 'scooter' clinic very close to the area CDMO, chief district medical officer, office, who is responsible to deal with such cases," said Dr Anil Bansal, Chairman, Anti-Quackery Cell, Delhi Medical Association.

The complaint, written by SK Singhal, the employer of Rahul (the man who lost his child), states that his employee did not turn up for two days and on asking narrated the whole incident where his wife felt uneasy and pain in the stomach and was treated by Madan Sharma, who runs a scooter clinic in the area. Soon after taking the medicine, his wife started to bleed and had to be taken to the Lady Hardinge Hospital. The complaint also mentions that Sharma used to be a helper at a pharmacy earlier and after quitting his job, started this roadside clinic where he has not only been giving medicines but also providing Intravenous fluids or IVs, and injections.

"This is the first of its kind case that we have heard. We will investigate the matter and if proven true, this will attract three years imprisonment and a fine of RS 20,000 at least under Section 27 of the Delhi Medical Council," said Dr Girish Tyagi, Registrar, Delhi Med Council.
