An illegal arms dealer wanted in many states was arrested by the Delhi Police's Crime Branch on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday last week at Sendhwa in Madhya Pradesh.

The arrested person has been identified as Bachan Singh alias Bacchu Singh. The police, at the instance of Singh, also arrested one of his close aides named Noor Mohammad from Meerut. Twenty pistols and 10 spare magazines were recovered from their possession during the operation.

According to the police, Singh had been illegally manufacturing and supplying sophisticated arms to criminal gangs of the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR) for many years. Singh was wanted in a number of cases in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra. The supply was carried out through middlemen and the police said more than 10 such middlemen and arms receivers had been arrested in different states in the past.

The search for Singh began after the Crime Branch had arrested a middleman named Ugara Singh in August 2017. It was found that Bachan Singh was the main kingpin manufacturing arms from remote areas of Madhya Pradesh.

The police then dispatched a number of teams to different locations in Madhya Pradesh to nab him.

Bachan evaded arrest for almost eight months until the police finally came close to him a week ago with the help of local informers. He was arrested from the jungles of Balwadi in Sendhwa.

The police also procured a consignment of arms that Mohammad was supposed to deliver to some unknown persons on behalf of Bachan Singh. Further investigation is going on to arrest other possible members of the arms racket.
