Delhi University student, Two others arrested for snatching

A Delhi University student and two others have been arrested for targeting women and snatching their purses and mobile phones in South-East area of Kalkaji. The accused DU student would not go out on the streets and commit the crime but had agreed to lend the other accused his motor-cycle in lieu of money.

"The accused have been identified as Rohan Gill alias Sunny (21), Manish alias Haria (22) and Ashish Rawat (23). Three cases of snatching have been solved, and snatched purse, Samsung mobile phone, Metro cards and cash has been recovered. The Splendor bike used to commit snatchings has also been seized," said Chinmoy Biswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South-East Delhi.

On April 18, around 5 pm, a woman stated that she was going to her home in Okhla from her workplace at Nehru Enclave. Suddenly, two persons on a motorcycle came from behind and snatched her purse and fled away. The purse contained her mobile phone, Metro card and some cash. Even when she tried to raise an alarm but they ran away. A case was later registered.

During the investigation, the faces of the culprits were seen in one of the CCTV cameras in the area. The images were not clear and the JJ clusters close to the area were scanned. Later, the police team was successful in arresting Rohan and Manish.

The arrested accused told the police that they smoke marijuana and are alcohol addicts. In order to meet their demands, they started committing robberies and snatching. The duo have been previously arrested in cases of snatching and robbery, and they live in a nearby locality in Govindpuri.

"They told the police that the motorcycle belongs to Ashish, who would give them his bike for committing the crime and take a handsome amount from the booty. Ashish was also earlier arrested in a robbery case in Amar colony along with Rohan," said Biswal.
