A Delhi University student lodged on Monday a police complaint against a man, alleging he indulged in an obscene act while sitting next to her in a DTC bus. She also alleged that none of the passengers came forward to help. No arrest has been made so far.

The complainant, a final year BA English student, was on her way home on February 7 and had boarded the route number 774 bus. In her statement, the woman said, "I was reading a book when a man seated next to me flashed his private parts. He also tried to touch me."

She further said she video-recorded the obscene act and that when she asked for help, none of the co-passengers stepped forward. The man got down at the IIT gate.

She later alleged she had to wait for hours to get the FIR registered. Senior police officials, however, blamed the delay on a technical error.

"We have registered a case under sections 354 (sexual harassment), 354A, and 294 (obscene act in public place) and are looking for the suspect," said Dependra Pathak, chief PRO of the police department.
