Almost half of the available 56,000 undergraduate seats were filled at colleges across the Delhi University (DU) as they wrapped up admissions under the second cut-off list on Wednesday. The university witnessed "unprecedented" number of admissions under the first two lists this time around.

Despite high cut-offs under the first list, admissions in many popular courses in most sought-after colleges were closed under the second list. However, colleges that had failed to attract aspirants made a considerable drop in the second list released on Sunday evening. Following which several off-campus colleges remained flooded in the past three days with the university administration having to extend the timing of admissions from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm on Wednesday. "As many as 26,291 students have been admitted by Wednesday evening," said Maharaj K Pandit, member of the admission committee. The university had completed 15,245 admissions under the first list.

However, there were around 3,200 cancellations of admissions as well. Most of the cancellations were seen in Ramjas College, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, Gargi College and Daulat Ram College. Course wise maximum cancellations were witnessed in B Com (Hons), BA programme, B Com, Economics (Hons). The second cut-off list was announced on June 24.

Officials at the varsity said that most of the admissions were done in popular colleges and very few options will be available at the top colleges under the third list. "Most of the admissions are done in popular colleges like Hindu, SRCC, Miranda House, Hansraj, Lady Shri Ram and Gargi College. Few courses will be available at these colleges in the third list," an official in the admission committee said.

Meanwhile, seats are still lying vacant at several off-campus colleges like Aditi Mahavidyalaya and Lakshmi Bai College. "We have filled almost half of the available 1,000 seats by Wednesday evening. A drop of 1-3 per cent is expected in the third cut-off list. However, all courses will remain open," said Pratyush Vatsala, principal, Lakshmi Bai.

The third cut-off list will be announced on Friday evening and admissions under it will be done till Tuesday.
