In order to pay tribute to the works of Indian bard Rabindranath Tagore on his death anniversary, theatre group Aaj-Rangmandal will stage a Hindi play Tamasha Na Hua at Shri Ram Centre, Mandi on Monday and Tuesday. The play has been written and directed by Bhanu Bharti.

Celebrating Tagore and his literary work, Tamasha Na Hua depicts the diversified ideology of freedom and brings to life the parts of his famous play Mukta-Dhara. The play was first staged in 2011 to commemorate Tagore's 150th Anniversary.

"It is my tribute to the epoch-reaching vision of Tagore. Tamasha Na Hua is a modern take on Mukta-Dhara, one of Tagore's most celebrated works, and explores the many ideas that formed the basis of his literary accomplishments," says Bharti.

In Tamasha Na Hua, Mukta-Dhara forms the backdrop against which the ideas and philosophy of Tagore are projected. "The setting is very contemporary and the debate is much relevant to the times we are in. It is time we introspect and reflect what freedom means to each one of us. The strong debate between Gandhi's versus Tagore's ideas of nationalism, a burning topic in the present day, Tamasha Na Hua is our chance to retrospect independence and contemplating our economic and political affiliation affecting our social standpoint."

The play will have theatre stalwarts and veterans like Ravi Khanvilkar, Teekam Joshi, Nalini R Joshi and Daksha Sharma coming alive on stage.

"We have rehearsed with all our heart, and I believe when we will stage Tamasha Na Hua, the warmth of our dedication and love for the play will touch the hearts across the thrust stage and hook them till the curtains drop," said Khanvilkar.
