Delhi: Three arrested for bursting firecrackers on New Year's eve

According to the police, the accused have been identified as Rohit Brijlani (31), Nikhil Kakkar (29) and his brother Lalit Kakkar (30), who were arrested on Tuesday.

Frustrated over not been able to burst crackers during Diwali landed three brothers into trouble for bursting cracker during New Year's eve. Police said that despite being warned they kept bursting crackers and were arrested from outside their house from Lajput Nagar area of South East District. One plastic sack having fire-crackers was also seized from their possession.

According to the police, the accused have been identified as Rohit Brijlani (31), Nikhil Kakkar (29) and his brother Lalit Kakkar (30), who were arrested on Tuesday.

"In order to ensure compliance on the directives of the Hon'ble Supreme Court regarding bursting of fire-crackers, the teams of all police stations of the South-East District on the occasion of New Year had sensitised RWAs and locals to celebrate New Year responsibly," said Chinmoy Biswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police, (South-East).

During patrolling at around 1:30 am on Tuesday, a team reached near C-Block and found three persons bursting fire-crackers outside their house. Patrolling team told them about the Supreme Court directions on bursting fire-crackers but despite the directions given by the police staff, they continued to bursting fire-crackers.

"All the three were held and a plastic sack having fire-crackers was also seized from their possession. A case under section 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal code was registered," said Biswal.

During interrogation, they revealed that they all work in private company and these crackers were purchased by them last year but due to Supreme Court directives on bursting fire-crackers as well as strict police vigil, they could not burst them during Diwali.

"Therefore, they all decided to celebrate New Year by bursting the fire-crackers. Fire-crackers of the accused persons were duly seized and all 03 persons were arrested and later duly released on bail by us," said Biswal.

Further investigation of the case is in progress.
