Seven people, including two employees of the Ministry of Rural Development, have been arrested for running a recruitment scam in Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).

According to the police, the accused have been identified as Jagdish Raj (55), resident of Sarojni Nagar, Sandeep Kumar (31), a resident of Najafgarh, Delhi, and both employees of the Ministry, Wasim (28), Ankit Gupta (32), and Vishal Goel (37) — all three from UP's Meerut, Suman Saurabh (32) and Kishore Kunal (32) of east Delhi's Laxmi Nagar.

ONGC had filed a complaint at south-west Delhi's Vasant Kunj police station about fraudsters cheating unemployed youths on the pretext of providing jobs in ONGC as Assistant Engineers.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the victims received e-mails from an official ONGC account about interview for jobs. They were interviewed at Krishi Bhawan, a Government of India establishment. A person named Randhir Singh alias Kunal Kishore was introduced to them who took Rs 22 lakh from the victims for getting them jobs in ONGC.

"We cracked the IP address of an accused and raided at an office in Laxmi Nagar where prime accused Kunal Kishore alias Randhir was apprehended. Kishore was interrogated and he disclosed about other members who were arrested subsequently," said Rajiv Ranjan, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime).

"Kunal claimed that his brother-in-law is an ONGC employee and has good influence. Raj used to arrange the cabin of any officer at Krishi Bhawan who was on leave and his colleague Kumar ensured the entry of the victims into it," said Ranjan.

Police have seized 27 mobile phones, 2 laptops, 10 cheque books, fake voter ID cards and 45 SIM cards used by the accused.
