Students are allegedly asked to manage the main gate besides attending their classes as security guard is on leave for the last several days in a Delhi school.

The matter came to light on Wednesday when a news channel telecast a video of some students manning entry gate at Ramjas Senior Secondary School Number-2, a government-aided school, in Anand Parvat area of west Delhi.

"We have a duty roster for manning the entry gate of the school as guards seldom come for duty. Everyday, a student is assigned to handle the gate," a student said.

School authorities, however, have refuted the charge saying that students are not assigned to do such job.

"We know that it is wrong. Students were asked to handle for just two minutes as the peon, because security guard was on leave for the last few days, had gone to attend nature's call," CP Kothiyal, principal of school, said.

Kothiyal also said, "Schools has two security guards for day and night separately. The day guard has not come for the last few days, hence the school's peon does this job. When peon had gone to attend nature's call, he asked some students to manage the gate so that other students could not leave school."

On the other hand, Delhi government officials said that they are looking into the matter and assured of stern action if such an incident had happened.

"We are studying the facts. If anything like this has happened, we will take action," Padmini Singla, director of education, said.
