Residents from across the capital welcomed DNA’s campaign against illegal and unauthorised parking in Delhi for over a week. During the campaign, parking issues in localities like RK Puram, Khan Market, South Extension, Moti Bagh, Vasant Kunj, Vasant Vihar, Saket and Malviya Nagar were published.
“The campaign was urgently needed as parking was a big issue in our locality. The way DNA reached us to understand the issues and ask for solutions, it is appreciable,” said Sanjeev Madan, a shopper at South Extension.
Residents of RK Puram saw an immediate impact of the story, as illegal parking near Bhikaji Cama Place was controlled and service lanes were cleared. In Saket and Malviya Nagar, residents have started questioning people parking vehicles illegally and the contractor who was illegally using roads to offer parking.
“Since the issue was published in DNA, many residents have started to question the contractor who was allowed to offer parking on one side of the road but had been illegally using the another side also,” said VK Sinha, a resident of Saket.
Abundance of commercial and educational institutions in a particular region and scarcity of parking near these establishments, along with the parking mafia using roads, were some of the problems the residents dealt with for long. However, with DNA’s campaign against unauthorised parking, these residents found a platform to voice their opinions and reach the authorities.
Areas like Khan Market, where parking lots have limited space compared to the influx of vehicles on a daily basis, were brought to light during the campaign.
