Delhi records season's hottest day

The national Capital suffered searing heat on Wednesday as the Palam observatory recorded 46 degrees Celsius as maximum temperature, making it the hottest day of this summer season. The minimum mark was 27 degrees Celsius with strong surface winds making it worse for Delhiites.

The meteorological department has predicted partly cloudy sky with possibility of development of thunder, lightning on Wednesday. There would be a little respite from the scorching heat as the maximum temperature will be 45 degrees Celsius.

The Safdarjung observatory, meanwhile, recorded a maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius while the minimum was 26 degrees Celsius. According to the weather department, there is a possibility of dust storm or thunderstorm on Thursday, which will bring the mercury down by just two notches from Wednesday, making it 43 degrees Celsius. The minimum mark will be 26 degrees Celsius. Sky will remain clear after Thursday.

"The heat wave is due to loo winds and the direction is westerly and northwesterly. This condition will prevail for a couple of more days. Safdarjung temperature, too, is likely to be hotter tomorrow. There is a possibility of dust and thunderstorm after two days," said Kuldeep Srivastva, senior scientist, Indian Meteorological Department.
