Delhi Police Commissioner holds inter-sate police meeting ahead of Republic Day

During the meeting, traffic restrictions during the Republic Day at borders were also discussed and officers of other states were requested to cooperate in the compliance of the restrictions.

Keeping the upcoming Republic Day celebrations in mind, Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik held a meeting with senior police officials from several states on Wednesday at the police headquarters in Delhi and discussed security issues related to the Republic Day functions in NCR.

Senior police officials from Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh were present in the meeting.

"The main objective of the meeting was to share terror-related intelligence and inputs about various extremist outfits and their designs in view of the forthcoming Republic Day celebrations. While stress was laid on increasing the police presence, intensive and co-ordinated checking at vulnerable points, tenant verification, guest house checking, paying guest accommodation and sensitization of cyber café owners, second-hand car dealers, etc., in order to strengthen the counter terrorism measures," said a senior police officer.

During the meeting, traffic restrictions during the Republic Day at borders were also discussed and officers of other states were requested to cooperate in the compliance of the restrictions.

"We have asked all to study the trends in smuggling of illicit fire-arms, drug trafficking, human trafficking and missing children and asked for regular interaction and sharing of information for proper and effective surveillance on the activities of criminals as well as musclemen," said the officer.

The CP Delhi also requested all the participating police officers to take all necessary measures in view of recent events such as the Republic Day celebrations, terrorist attack and threat perceptions.

"Patnaik has urged to all stake holders to co-operate with the arrangements of Republic Day celebration and further stressed for action against criminals involved in manufacturing and supply of illegal fire-arms," said the officer.

All officers were also briefed to share advance intelligence having inter-state ramifications on law and order.

The meeting ended with a resolution to have increased co-ordination in policing in the NCR region with emphasis on one-to-one interaction at all levels in order to provide a more secure environment to citizens of Delhi and neighbouring states.
