A three-year-old has decided to donate his hair for cancer patients in order to avenge his grandmother's death of cancer. Mir Dev, 3, is all set to help a chemotherapy patient through 'Hair for Hope' foundation's initiative that collects hair for cancer patients going through chemotherapy. He is the youngest boy in the world to donate hair for cancer, said the foundation.

"Hair donation has become a huge movement now as women even go bald defying social norms and taboos to avenge losing a loved one to cancer. Hundreds of men, too, have donated. Hundreds of wigs have already been donated. Mir is undoubtedly the youngest boy to grow his hair for the cause," said Premi Mathew, founder of the campaign in India.

Mir will be donating his hair on August 14, a month before his third birthday.

Salons all across the city are seeing people walking in, asking them to cut hair and give back in a sealed pouch for donations.

Diva Kapoor, an eight-year-old girl from Delhi, has been celebrating her birthday with young cancer patients since the past couple of years. When she got to know about hair donations, she asked for permission from her mother to donate her long hair to a child who needed them 'more than her'.

'Hair for HOPE' India was started in 2013 to create awareness about hair donations to chemotherapy patients. Under the campaign 'Protect Your Mom' for breast cancer awareness, so far, 6,000 people have been inspired to donate hair across the country. Hair donation events have been held in various parts.

"As cancer is an incurable disease and can often incite feelings of hopelessness in activists and patients alike. For many hair donors, it is their way of avenging the death of a loved one. Behind every donation, there is a story, women risk family ire while men risk social ire to support the cause. A girl went bald for the cause, too, because she had lost so many loved ones to cancer," said Mathew.
