Delhi Lt governor Najeeb Jung wants secretaries to take ownership of projects

Delhi Lt governor Najeeb Jung on Tuesday directed Secretaries of all departments to take ownership of each project for their effective implementation.

"Secretaries must take ownership for each scheme and project and personally monitor its progress," he said as he reviewed various schemes and projects announced by the Union Finance Minister while presenting Delhi's budget for the year 2014-2015 on July 18.

Home department officials informed Jung that land has been alotted by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for setting up of Forensic Science Laboratories (FSL) in Rohini and village Sayurpur.

"DDA has alotted 4000 Sq mtr of land in Rohini plase-3 and 5478 Sq mtr of land in Sayurpur for building the Laboratories. City administration is yet to acquire land in Sheikh Sarai.

"City administration has already started a lab at Yashwant Place in Chanakyapuri on a temporary basis offered by North Delhi Municipal Corporation to deal with the rush till three new full-fledged laboratories are established," said a Delhi government official.

With only one FSL available in the city at Rohini, the pendency of criminal cases awaiting FSL reports has mounted to over 9,000. Further, he was informed that 155 women sub-inspectors and 1434 women constables and their training will start soon.

Further, land has been identified in Chhattarpur for building a multi specialty hospital for South Delhi residents. During the review of Health Department projects, Jung was apprised that the new 8 storyed air conditioned OPD building with modern patient amenities has been made functional at Lok Nayak Hospital, up-gradation of surgical block at Lok Nayak Hospital is under progress and the construction of a new medical college with 100 seats at Rohini has begun.

Inspection of the under-construction medical college has been completed by IP University and the department has applied for Medical Council of India (MCI) permissions. For trauma care, orders for 110 ambulances fitted with life saving equipment have already been placed and the 1st lot will be delivered in March 2015.

One stop centre for crisis management and rehabilitation of victims of sexual assault is functional in Sanjay Gandhi Hospital and Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital. One Stop Centers will be started in GTB and Lok Nayak Hospital by November 2014 and seven more such centres are being finalized.

Jung also asked the department officials to speed up the work of setting up 20 dialysis units in Dr Hedgewar Hospital. During the review of projects related power and water reforms, Lt governor was informed that the proposal for power reforms have been approved by Centre and is being implemented by Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd.
