Days, after Harshit was brutally beaten up by a group of people in Sawan Park area, his family and neighbours on Wednesday complained of laxity on the police's part in pursuing the case. They alleged that the accused had been trying to influence the police to go soft on their complaint and therefore it was not being taken seriously.

Speaking to DNA, Harshit's mother Manju Sharma said, "The family which had roughed up my son are infamous for many incidents of gundagardi (hooliganism) in the past. We have heard that they are very influential in their area and have good connections with the local police. They are now trying to suppress our complaint using their influence and money."

"People were afraid of them. So nobody intervened for a very long a time. Only when my son almost lost consciousness did somebody help him escape the blows," Sharma said.

Vikram Vaish, one of Harshit's neighbours, also said that people of the area where the the incident occurred were refusing to hand over the CCTV footages to the police out of fear.

Both Vaish and Harshit's mother said that the police had tried to confuse Harshit and rather tried to put the blame on him while taking his statement a few days ago.

"The police team tried to indicate that my son had allegedly been stalking the lady in the car on his scooty. They also tried to confuse him by asking twisted questions," Sharma said.

While the police are yet to file a chargesheet, Harshit's kin want them to toughen their stance on the same. "It is a case of attempt to murder. Our boy would have surely died had the thrashing gone on a little longer. Hence, we want the police to file the chargesheet accordingly by including the relevant sections of the law," Vaish said.
