Delhi govt directs schools to install air purifiers

In a bid to protect students from the effects of shooting pollution levels in the national Capital, the Delhi government has directed the city schools to install air purifiers.

"The ambient air quality of Delhi needs to be improved. In view of the gravity of harm to human health due to inferior ambient air quality, schools should take action to install air filters as per need," read an advisory issued by the Directorate of Education (DoE) to schools on Friday.

It also asked schools to sensitise students about the adverse impact of bursting fireworks on public health. "Young generation should be encouraged to cooperate on the matter through co-curricular activities," the advisory added.

The schools have been asked to submit their compliance report within the next 15 days. Last year, the Delhi government had announced setting up a three-tier air treatment system at five major traffic intersections on a trial basis to deal with the rising air pollution level.
