A 26-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by his friend for asking his money back in South-east Delhi. The friend had borrowed Rs 1,000 a month ago and was not willing to return it. The incident took place in the Jaitpur area on Wednesday evening. The family members of the deceased have alleged that many people were present at the time of the incident but nobody tried to save him. The accused has been arrested and is in police custody.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Ranjan, a resident of O block in Jaitpur, who was allegedly stabbed half-a-dozen times by his friend Sumit for asking him to return the money he had lent.

"The two were friends had known each other for quite a long time now. Ranjan had lent him Rs 1,000 about a month ago after Sumit promised that he would return it in a few days. But he was not returning the money and kept making excuses," said Mahendra Singh, the deceased's brother.

On Wednesday morning, Ranjan met Sumit near the park behind his house and asked him for his money following which an argument broke out between the two after which Sumit left the spot.

"Within a few minutes, he returned with a knife and stabbed Ranjan around six-seven times before fleeing the spot. People were present in the park but no one came forward to help him. My brother was bleeding profusely and we rushed him to a nearby hospital,"said Singh.

The family admitted him to Apollo Hospital first, but because of his condition, he was referred to the AIIMS Trauma Centre where the doctors declared him dead on arrival. Following the complaint filed by the deceased's family, a case under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against Sumit. "A team was formed to nab him and Sumit was arrested on Wednesday night," said a senior police officer.
