Gautam Budh Nagar Police arrested four persons for looting a truck loaded with silver worth Rs 3.5 crore on Yamuna Expressway on April 3, from Jewar area of Greater Noida on Wednesday. Police have recovered around 5 quintals and 18 kgs out of the total 6 quintals of stolen silver. The four wanted to sell the silver and go to Dubai. The truck belonged to a courier company, Blue Dart, transporting the consignment of several jewellers from Agra to Delhi.

According to the police, the accused have been identified as Hassim, Abdulla, Ashwani and Shoav, who had identified themselves as sales tax officials, and looted the truck carrying silver jewellery.

"On April 3, a driver, Amit Kumar, and a guard, Satveer had left Agra. They said that when they reached near Jewar on Yamuna Expressway, four criminals in an Innova overtook them and forced them to stop. The criminals asked them to show the papers of the consignment. The driver showed the papers but the criminals said the papers were not complete," said a police officer.

The three criminals and two victims sat in the Innova car while another criminal followed them in the truck. The driver and guard alleged that the criminals snatched their mobile phones and valuables, and dumped them near ITO. The gang then fled with the truck.

"Blue Dart had registered a complaint in this matter. On Wednesday, we received secret information that the accused will be heading to Delhi via Noida from Aligarh in an Innova car to sell the jewelry, so a trap was laid and they were nabbed after a brief encounter," said a senior police officer.
