The 400-metre-long skywalk in the heart of National Capital Delhi has become a favourite selfie spot. Every day, especially in the evening, many can be seen sitting on the steps.
To prevent the Rs 59-crore skywalk from becoming a hangout zone for the young couples, a Delhi firm has hired professional bouncers.
According to an HT report, the company responsible for the maintenance of the skywalk has hired six men on the monthly salary of Rs 15,500.
These men not only keep a sharp vigil but also tell people to move away. In case these bouncers spot a couple sitting on the steps or spending more time on the skywalk walking aimlessly, they approach them and ask the lovebirds to leave.
The bouncers, as quoted by the HT, say that these days, nobody listens to the guards. Whereas, people do listen to these men in all black uniforms.
The skywalk which was approved by Delhi government in 2017 has a unique design feature of helical type circular rings.
According to the officials, around 30,000 pedestrians who cross the road at ITO every day will benefitted with the bridge once the construction is complete.
The city's first-ever skywalk will facilitate the smooth movement of pedestrians, connecting Tilak Marg, Sikandara Road, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Mathura Road at the W-point of the ITO crossing from the Pragati Maidan metro station. Moreover, it will help reduce safety risks as well.
The skywalk, which has have four arms, starts from the Pragati Maidan metro station. The first arm of the skywalk exits at the Mathura Road bus stand. The second one will go under the Metro line and it descends near the entry of the Tilak Bridge railway station. There are two exits in the third wing- one on Tilak Marg, near the Bal Gangadhar Tilak statue and the other one on Sikandra Road, near the Institute of Archaeology building. The fourth one is a ramp that descends on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, near the Hanuman Temple. Meanwhile, a FOB has also been developed under the project near Hans Bhawan on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg.
