The family and friends of Amit Singh and Neeraj Singh, who died on Sunday by drowning in the swimming pool, contradicted the police's version of the incident. They blamed the pool authority for the deaths as the pool had allegedly been functioning without the necessary legal clearances.

According to them, the boys had not been drunk at the time of the incident as alleged by the police. They said that they had gone to enjoy a swim in the evening and entered the pool after purchasing tickets worth Rs 100 each from the security guards there.

Speaking to DNA, Neeraj's aunt Swari Devi said,"The pool authority is now trying to divert the attention from their illegal deeds by falsely accusing the boys of being drunk. Without any legal clearance, this pool must be shut down to prevent such incidents."

Questioning the safety standards of the pool complex, Bikram Singh Sindhwal, Neeraj's uncle said, "Despite the presence of a couple of lifeguards there, how could such an incident happen? This is really serious. The pool authority must be brought to book immediately for such grave negligences."

The family's version of the incident seemed to have been corroborated by Bharat Singh, the third boy who had accompanied Amit and Neeraj to the pool but managed to escape death.

"In my knowledge, none of my friends was drunk. There were many other people inside the pool, all of whom had entered only after buying tickets and being allowed by the security guards there," Singh said.

"There were no indications anywhere stating the water level of the pool. The life guards were also not doing their duty and casually gossiping in a corner. I had to keep shouting several times to get their attention and help save my drowning friends,"Singh alleged.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the dead men had been sent for medical examination and the police were waiting for the autopsy report before investigating further.
