A Delhi doctor, who was kidnapped 13 days ago, was rescued after a police encounter near Uttar Pradesh's Meerut on Wednesday evening. Two of the alleged kidnappers sustained bullet injuries and have been brought to Delhi after treatment. Two others have also been arrested.

The police said doctor Srikant Goud was abducted on July 6 after he took an Ola cab to his home in south Delhi's Gautam Nagar. But instead, the driver drove to eastern parts of Delhi where more people joined him to kidnap the doctor.

The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of Rs 5 crore from Ola to release him. The cab-hailing firm reported the matter to the police on July 7. The kidnappers then asked for the ransom from Metro Hospital in East Delhi's Preet Vihar, where Gaud works. The kidnappers used Goud's own phone to shoot videos to demand the ransom.

The police said the gang members, five of whom are still absconding, run an organised racket. Three of the four arrested accused have been identified as Pradeep, Nepal and Amit.

Gaud had gone for a party with his friends who dropped him at Preet Vihar Metro station around 11 pm. He booked the cab when he missed the last Metro, the police said.

The police first zeroed in on a location near Meerut where a shoot-out took place on Sunday between a joint team of Delhi police and UP STF and the kidnappers, but the kidnappers managed to flee.

They were later traced near Haridwar. On Wednesday evening, they were tracked near Pratapur between Meerut and Muzaffarnagar, where a team of Delhi police had been camping for days.

Sources said that the accused driver used fake documents to drive the cab for Ola.
