The Crime Branch of the Shakarpur police station on Tuesday arrested a criminal, who has multiple cases registered and is a proclaimed offender, the police said. One luxury car, five mobile phones with sim cards and five new sim cards have been recovered from his possession.

The Crime Branch got an information about one Amit Verma, a resident of GTB Enclave, that he is hiding in the Capital to evade arrest. He was declared a proclaimed offender in two cases of CBI, two cases of Economic Offences Wing Crime Branch and had been issued Non-bailable Warrants in six cases. He had duped people and siphoned off around Rs 50 crore from banks in Delhi-NCR.

The information was developed and systematic efforts were made to locate Verma. On Tuesday, an information was received that the accused is wandering in the Shakarpur area. The team laid a trap at Verma's hideout and apprehended him, Rajiv Ranjan, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) said.

During sustained interrogation, Verma said that he along with his associates Nitin Arora, Sandeep Khera, Ishima Arora and Vinod Arora used to prepare forged documents of flats and plots which were already mortgaged with different banks. The accused in connivance with his associates took a loan from Bank of Maharashtra in Noida Sector 27 and other banks on the property which was already mortgaged by creating forged documents.

Later, when the gang members didn't pay the loan installments, bank officials visited the site in question and discovered that other banks, too, have pasted their notices mentioning loan and property being mortgaged with their bank. Some of the banks approached the CBI and some of the banks approached the EOW.

Approximately Rs 44 crore has been taken as a loan by them, by mortgaging the same property. In this regard, the CBI has registered 10 cases and EOW Delhi has registered two cases, the police said.

Arora is already in jail with his wife Ishita Arora for the past 2 years. Arora was nabbed by Crime Branch in 2015 in two cases of attempts to murder in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh of Sanjay Mehta and Sandeep Kheda, respectively through contract killers, the police said.
