The Gautam Budh Nagar Crime Branch has swung into action following the arrest of the director of Earth Infratech, Vikas Gupta on Monday evening by the Delhi Police.

The Crime Branch is completing its legal formalities in the court in order to seek warrants against Gupta and interrogate him in all the cases registered against him in the district.

"We are completing the legal formalities in the district court seeking warrants in all the cases registered against him in various police stations around the district. Once the formalities are complete, actions will be followed. We will also ask the court for remand of the accused in all these cases," the Gautam Buddh Nagar police said.

Gupta was apprehended from a hotel at Delhi's Aerocity on Monday evening for allegedly duping thousands of home buyers in Noida and Greater Noida.

The police said that as many as four FIRs of cheating, producing fake documents and other charges are registered against him in different police stations of Noida and Greater Noida.

"Three cases have been registered against him in the Sector 20 police station of Noida while one case is registered against him in the Bisrakh police station of Greater Noida. All these cases are registered under IPC sections 420, 471, 467, 468, 504 and 506," the police added.

On Tuesday, Gupta was produced before the court which remanded him in the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) custody for two days.

Meanwhile, the home buyers who have been cheated by Earth Infratech lauded the police for their efforts and said that if the police would not have made the arrest, Gupta would have escaped and gone abroad after duping them of their hard-earned money.

"The group has cheated thousands of home buyers in the pretext of providing world-class facilities and making fake promises. As all the four directors of the realty group are in jail now, we have hopes from the court to provide relief to us after been cheated by the builder and being ignored by the government as well," said Vishal Malhotra, a buyer of Earth Town project in Noida Extension.

THE ALLEGATIONS

Earth Infratech had launched 11 big real estate projects in Delhi and NCR region. Buyers have alleged that the group knit a web to lure them showing fake facilities. They also said that they have made 80-85 per cent payments against their flats and are bearing the dual burden of rent and EMIs.
