The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested an arms supplier who was on the run since May 2018. The accused had planned to eliminate a senior citizen couple in May 2018 and was evading arrest since then. The Delhi Police had also declared a reward of a lakh on his arrest. The accused Mohit Verma alias Virat (21), hails from Etawah.

The cops received a tip off that Verma would come near Timber Market in Kalindi Kunj on Sunday night. The police laid a trap and asked him to surrender but Verma brandished a gun. The police overpowered him and took him custody. The cops found a semi-automatic pistol of .32 bore and 5 live cartridges on him. "Verma told the police that has been smuggling arms for the last four years. He used to procure weapons from Sendhwa in Madhya Pradesh (MP) and Munger in Bihar. He would procure the weapon and supply them in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan," said Pramod Kushwah, deputy commissioner of police, Special Cell.

Verma was lured by an arms dealer of Etawah and worked as a carrier for him for two years. In the year 2016, he developed his own network and started supplying illegal arms. So far he had supplied more than 250 pistols in Delhi and adjoining states. The pistol was purchased at Rs 10,000 from suppliers and sold it for Rs 20,000- 25,000.

Verma disclosed that his brother-in-law Aakash Patel was working as a nursing attendant with an old couple who were in their 90's and resided in South Delhi. The couple was rich and lived alone. Patel and Verma planned to eliminate the couple and rob them. Verma procured the weapon to execute the plan and he handed over the weapon to Patel. But before they could execute the plan Patel was arrested.
