Delhi cops nab 7 who trained kids to carry out theft at stations

Seven persons, including a juvenile, were apprehended by the Delhi Police for running a gang where juveniles were specially employed and trained to carry out petty thefts at Metro stations and railway stations.

Around 40 smartphones, a pistol and over Rs 4 lakh in cash were recovered by the Delhi Police from their possession.

"The accused have been identified as Raj Kumar alias Linder, the kingpin, Anil alias Tolu, Govind alias Mohit, Yogesh alias Lukka, Ankit alias Sonu, Nasir and a juvenile. The juvenile, who was first apprehended while trying to steal a mobile phone, stated that around six other juveniles were also trained by the gang and were given cash as per the amount and goods that they stole," said Nupur Prasad, DCP, Shahdara.

According to the police, the incident took place on Tuesday, when a juvenile, on the basis of local intelligence, was apprehended and a stolen mobile phone was recovered from him. The juvenile later told the police that he was working under Raj and five of his other gang members, who would train them to commit different crimes. The gang members took the advantage of these juveniles operating on stations as most of the time the gang members would leave the state while as the complaints were registered against the kids, or most of the time the victim would not complain thinking of them as kids committing a mistake.

Of the accused, police said, Raj is previously involved in 16 cases of Arms Act, Excise Act, theft, Robbery, etc and is committing crime from the last 22 years. Anil has also been involved in two cases of theft. Another gang member, Govind is involved in a murder and theft case. Yogesh, another accused, was involved in a murder case as a juvenile while both Ankit and Nasir have been involved in cases of theft and robbery.
