A constable got injured in the encounter broke out between police and a group of robbers in New Delhi’s Preet Vihar residential area on wee hours of Friday.
According to the police, at around two in the afternoon, they got information that some miscreants are trying to enter a house of a businessman near the cave temple in Preet Vihar. “Seeing the miscreants the locals informed the police. Police team reached the spot under the leadership of ASI Lokesh of Preet Vihar Police,” police said.
However, before the police could reach the spot, three of the four miscreants had already entered the house. “One of them was standing outside to watch and when he saw police coming he alerted his partners,” they said.
In a bid to flee from the spot, the miscreants started firing on the police team. “Five round bullet fired between the police and the robbers. A bullet run by the miscreants started going to the shoulder of ASI Lokesh. As soon as the bullet hit, he fell down,” police said.
“When the cop was shot and other policemen started looking at him, the miscreants managed to run from there,” they said.
Meanwhile, another police team reached the spot upon receiving the news of the encounter and rushed the cop to a nearby hospital. “The cop is out of danger. However, his pistol was not found after the incident,” a senior police official said.
“We suspect that the robbers may be Bangladeshi. However, we are yet to examine the CCTV footages recovered from the locality to identify them,” the official said.
