In the wake up of the murder of a Delhi Police constable in Vijay Vihar area, Congress on Tuesday accused Home Ministry of "failing" to provide safety and security to Delhiites and alleged that law and order situation has gone "out of control" in the national capital.

Congress has demanded a government job for the wife of constable Jagbir Singh, who was shot dead by five unidentified armed assailants in outer Delhi on October 13.

"Home Ministry has not only failed to provide safety and security to the people of Delhi, but the law and order situation in the Capital has also gone out of control to create a "jungle raj" kind of situation in the national capital."

"If a constable is not safe, why is the BJP-led Central government mouthing the slogan of providing security to the common people," DPCC chief Arvinder Singh Lovely told reporters.

"Constable Jagbir's wife should be given a government job by making changes in rules while injured constable Narendra should be given out of turn promotion," he said.

"If the situation does not improve in the next few days in the national capital, the Congress will gherao the Home Ministry," Singh said. The DPCC president also sought that police medal should be awarded to those constables who died in clashes during the past 100 days.

"The manner in which the previous Congress Government in Delhi had given job as a teacher to the widow of the martyred Delhi Police inspector Mohan Chand Sharma by making changes in the rules, should be emulated by the BJP to provide a job to the widow of Jagbir," DPCC chief spokesperson and senior leader Mukesh Sharma said.

"Delhi has not only become unsafe place for women, but also for the common people and even the police personnel. With this, Delhi should now be known as "Delhi is unsafe for the common people and the Delhi Police constables"." The Congress leader also said that a little girl Jahnvi was recently abducted from India Gate, a constable was also killed at Jaffrabad, and despite that BJP was talking of giving "protection" to women.

"The manner in which the Delhi Police constables are being murdered one after another has scared the common people, who now live in fear and tension," he added.
