Delhi Cabinet nod to hike in cash incentives for outstanding sportspersons

Similarly, silver and bronze medal winners will now get Rs 2 crore and Rs 1 crore, respectively.

The Delhi government has approved the proposal to increase the cash incentive for a gold medal winner in Olympics/Paralympics from the national Capital from Rs 1 crore to Rs 3 crore. The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday.

Similarly, silver and bronze medal winners will now get Rs 2 crore and Rs 1 crore, respectively.

"Good news for sportspersons from Delhi Cabinet approves Rs 3 crore cash incentive for Olympic gold medallists; Rs 2 crore for silver medallists; Rs 1 crore for bronze (sic)," Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia tweeted on Tuesday.

"Similarly, Asiad gold medallists will now get Rs 1 crore from Delhi government; Rs 75 lakh for silver and Rs 50 lakh for bronze," he said. The player should be a resident of Delhi for the past three years.

The Cabinet also approved the Directorate of Technical Education's proposal for the construction of Stage-I of Phase-II, Delhi Technological University, Bawana Road, at an estimated cost of Rs 291.88 crore.

"Presently, the university is being run with insufficient infrastructure facilities which were created to cater to the needs of 3,000 students, However, currently the university has over 9,000 students and more than 500 teachers and support staff. The proposal is, therefore, for construction of Stage-I of Phase-II which shall provide infrastructure for additional 3,800 students in two academic blocks and provide residential accommodation to additional 990 students in three hostel blocks," a statement from Delhi government read.

Similarly, the Cabinet granted its approval for the sanction of additional funds of Rs 70 crore to be given to Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi (IIIT-D) as interest free loan due to increase in cost of construction of Phase –II of the Campus of IIIT-D, over and above the already sanctioned loan amount of Rs 250 crore.

Similarly, the Cabinet also  granted its approval for the sanction of additional funds of Rs 70 crore to be given to Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi  (IIIT-D) as interest free loan due to increase in cost of construction of Phase –II of the Campus of IIIT-D, over and above the already sanctioned loan amount of Rs 250 crore.
