In a boost to state's education sector, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government allotted Rs 3,9997 crore, which is 26 per cent of its total budget, for it in the fiscal year 2018-19, on Thursday. Last year, the Delhi government had dedicated 23.5 per cent of the total budget on education.

The government also announced to introduce several new schemes in its schools. Our government aspires to make Delhi an educational hub and has been working sincerely in this direction. Education sector has the highest share of 26 percentage of budget allocation in 2018-19," said Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia while presenting the annual budget in the Assembly.

Installation of 1.2 lakh CCTV cameras in government schools, self-defence training for girl students, promotion of sports in schools and setting up of a world-class skill center and language academies are among the major promises made by the AAP government in its budget proposal. "Rs 175 crore has been allotted for the installation of CCTV cameras. The specialty of this project is that parents will now be able to see the classroom activities of their children online," Sisodia said. The Delhi government had announced to make CCTV footages live for parents in January after several cases of harassment against children were reported in city schools.

The government teachers, however, raised concerns in giving an access of CCTV footages to parents. "We have no issue with recording the classes. It will be even good for us as it will also be a proof of our hard work. But it can turn out to be a blatant violation of a teacher's Right to Privacy, especially for female teachers. We will talk to the education minister on this," said Ajay Veer Singh, general secretary, Government Teachers' Association.

Besides, the government has also announced to construct 12,748 additional classrooms and 30 new school buildings, nursery classes in 366 Sarvodaya Vidyalayas,

introduction of 'Happiness Curriculum' in all its schools, Rs 5 lakh to each School Management Committee (SMC) and the introduction of 'Mission Buniyad' to improve reading ability and Maths skills of students from Class I to VIII, among others.
