In an attempt to curb the illegal encroachment on the Public Works Department's (PWD) roads across the national capital, the Delhi Assembly formed a five-member committee to suggest solutions to tackle the problem on Monday.

PWD Minister Satyendar Jain made the announcement in the house saying that the panel will work in coordination with the Assembly's Standing Committee on Public Utilities and Civic Amenities, as the PWD does not have power to remove encroachment even on its roads. " Municipal Corporations have the power to remove encroachment," he said.

Explaining the issues caused by these illegal encroachments, Jain told the House that fire tenders and ambulance often do not reach on time. "The committee will suggest solutions to tackle encroachment on PWD's roads and also study laws of other states to remove the same," he said, adding as many as 35 MLAs have written complaint to him on the encroachment on roads in their respective constituencies.

Among the MLAs, who have been named as the members of the Committee, are Madan Lal, Sourabh Bharadwaj, Naresh, Jagdish Pradhan and Om Prakash Sharma.
